Two Turtle Doves showed her liking for Chepstow's rolling undulations again when finishing with a flourish up the stands' side rail to nail long-time leader and recent Ffos Las scorer, Red Rhythm, in the very last stride of the 5f handicap.

Her second course win gave regular Jumps pilot Sean Quinlan his first winner on the flat, and while not giving up on his burgeoning career over obstacles, the versatile Irishman is hungry for further success on the level.

"It's getting tougher over jumps and if I get going on the flat I'll give it a go," he said. "I've done 8st 12lb and I could do lower if required."

It was the very popular Caribbean Night theme and Shes Rosie provided a memorable winner for local owner-breeder Stewart Martin to get the party swinging.

Winning trainer John O'Shea said: "Shes Rosie had been struggling a bit on the soft ground and the faster conditions played to her strengths this evening."

There was plenty of cheering around the winners' enclosure as Shes Rosie landed a sizeable gamble for Martin and his host of friends after being backed from a morning price of 14-1 in to 6-1 on course.

Martin, who lives in nearby Yorkley, added: "I backed her at 14-1 this morning and told other people to have a few quid on as well, so we'll all be having a few drinks to celebrate later."

Champion jockey title contender Richard Hughes steered racecourse debutant, Ninjago, to a smooth victory in the 6f juvenile maiden to break the course record.

After riding at Ascot in the afternoon, Hughes and his pilot struggled to get their helicopter started for the quick dash to Chepstow: "It was a bit of a rush as we needed to get jump leads to get the helicopter started as it flooded when we first tried. Luckily it worked but I did miss the first (race).

"I did not want to get there too soon as he (Ninjago) would have started looking around. He's a nice type who will come on for the experience."

Regular Chepstow supporters Wayne and Sarah Clifford, who run Bathwick Tyres, enjoyed another course success when their homebred Verse Of Love stayed on strongly to win the 7f handicap under Cathy Gannon.

Verse Of Love was continuing the great form of trainer David Evans' team. The trainer said: "It's great for Wayne and Sarah as they bred the horse and have put an awful lot into racing through their sponsorship deals."

The next meeting is on Thursday 9th August. By Keith Ottesen
