Monmouth sprinter Ryan Lee competed in the inter-regional championships in Newport at Spytty Park last Sunday (26th May).

This comprised of teams from Swansea, Cardiff, Barry and the Vale, Newport, Cwmbran, Bridgend, Brecon and Aberdare.

Ryan was entered for the 400m and the 200m. The U23 and U20 men were in the same race and due to Ryan's excellent recent form the pressure was on as everyone was expecting a good performance.

Ryan ran a great race and finished first but was challenged all the way by the Cardiff athlete Gareth Hopkins who is an U23 runner.

Ryan's time was 48.47 seconds which shows his recent form has been very consistent.

Later in the day Ryan also competed in the 200m and after an excellent battle with Thomas Williams from Barry and the Vale also won that race.

Another successful day for Ryan collecting two gold medals and smashing the championship record in the 400m by nearly two seconds.

Next weekend Ryan travels to Rugby with his club Cardiff but he has his sights set on 15th and 16th June as he has qualified to compete at the European Trials and UK U23 and U20 event at Bedford.
