MONMOUTH TriClub has taken on the New Year with training in the water and on the bike already underway for the start of the triathlon new season this summer.

Members have not been fazed by the inclement weather and have already been competing in events around Wales and the New Forest. Regular club member, Forrest Jooligan, has been bravely competing in the South Wales Winter Hill Series and currently lies in eighth overall out of 283. Racing in the latest stage of the series on Saturday 23rd January, Forrest Jooligan finished an impressive 18th out of 124 in the Craig-yr-Allt race. Everyone at the club wishes him the best of luck for the rest of the series.

The Annual General Meeting for the Monmouth TriClub, conducted on Tuesday 19th January, has recognised this year’s committee members with Phil Tilley as chairman for the second year running. The club also has seen a steady increase in the number of its members. This, combined with the success of the Aquathlon in 2015, has enabled the club to again hold the Monmouth Challenge Aquathlon scheduled for Sunday 24th July. With admissions already coming in, the Monmouth Challenge Aquathlon 2016, sponsored by Freeman Homes, again promises the fun and challenge for swimmers and runners in and along the beautiful River Wye.

The club meets for swim sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7pm at Monmouth School Sports Centre and caters for all abilities. There also are regular bike training sessions on Sundays starting out for Monmouth’s Old Monnow Bridge.
