Monmouth Town's Kingfishers are on the look out for new youth recruits to help them take on the very best in Welsh Football.

The ambitious Welsh League First Division outfit and current division two champions have confirmed their intention to enter the FAW Academy League from September 2012 and are looking for players who want to develop and play at this more competitive level.

The club are hosting trials at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Sunday 1st July with Under 12s starting at 10.30am followed by Under 14s at 12pm and Under 16s at 1.30pm.

The Academy teams will be overseen by the experienced Dave Murphy, previously of Newport YMCA's academy, and will take on teams from Welsh Premier Academies Llanelli, Port Talbot and Haverfordwest and also the likes of Newport County and Merthyr Town.

The Kingfishers' Head of Football, Barry Burns, said: "It's another step in the right direction for the club and we want to be competing against the best at every age group.

"We have a great record of bringing young players though with almost all of the first team having graduated though the Monmouth ranks.

"It's a great opportunity for young footballers to test themselves against the best in South Wales.

"Apart from the professional clubs like Cardiff and Swansea this is the best opportunity any young player will get with highly qualified coaches, a great environment and a good level of competitive matches".

It appears that some clubs will resist the appeal of sending their better players to another club, but Burns continued: "It's unfortunate that some clubs do try and stand in the way of players progressing and will try and keep hold of their better players but we will only have about 14 competitive fixtures over the season and boys can still play for their existing clubs.

"Obviously we want to develop players for Monmouth Town in the future but who knows where our young players might end up.

"We'd love to see any young lads who want to take their football to a different level."
