Chepstow Ladies took on Gwernyfed at home last Saturday (2nd November).

The ladies were able to field their strongest line-up of the season so far, with coach Nick focussing on possession and utilising Kate McCoy at centre back as an anchor to switch the ball, allowing Chepstow to be dominant and focussed in their play.

Gwernyfed were young, fit and capable with quick movement on and off the ball.

Chepstow relied upon structure and strength to gain ground and keep possession. Chepstow's defence was solid in fending off Gwernyfed's many early breaks into goal with fantastic saves from keeper Knox and individual efforts from Baker, Williams and Clarke.

With low sun and a lot of glare on Chepstow's business end of the pitch, it took a little while to get into their stride with strikes going wide and Gwernyfed's benefit of shade to step up to tackle and intercept.

It wasn't long before Barclay and Baker on right brought the ball down the right and crossed it in for Eburne to convert.

Spirits soared as Gwernyfed heads went down and a few minutes later Chepstow were on the attack again, working the ball around the D to get a shot at goal. Anna Mayo, in prime position on the left post, put away Chepstow's second goal.

After half-time with the sun out of Chepstow's eyes, they dominated.

Gwernyfed were exceptionally quick on the counterattack and Chepstow were doing a lot of tracking but the defence held their own and denied Gwernyfed at every attempt.

Some beautiful play from Chepstow down the pitch and through midfield brought Eburne her second goal of the game.

Chepstow were soon awarded a short-corner, where Williams injected to Moore, who struck the ball into the left corner to put Chepstow 4-0 up with not long to go.

Gwernyfed were awarded three successive short corners with baited breath but McCoy and Searle were solid enough to clear.

Chepstow worked the ball back up towards goal and Barclay, Eburne and Moore went for goal, slipping the ball to Williams who converted Chepstow's last goal of the game.

A convincing and well-deserved 5-0 win puts Chepstow fourth in the table, one point clear of Gwernyfed and three below Risca and Gowerton.

They take on Llan & Llan away this Saturday (9th November).
