On Tuesday 2nd September, a host of teams from south Wales converged at Redwick for the Rose Inn Relays organised by San Domenico Running Club. Chepstow Harriers' women's team took first podium position, with Severn Bridge Half Marathon winner Kath Matthews in top form, racing alongside team-mates Nichola Gething and Niki Morgan. They fought off some tough competition from a much younger Lliswerry Runners' team. Chepstow's Vanessa Lawson, Helen Duffield and Karen Elvers were third female team overall and second veterans' team. A Chepstow male veterans' team comprising Neil Grant, Rob Beeves and Geoff Cram were third in their category. Chepstow past masters Syd Wheeler, Gareth Jones and Geoff Bayliss picked up first prize in their age category. Each team of three ran 1.91 miles on a flat course on country lanes around Redwick. There were male and female teams in four different age categories, mixed teams, and non-running club teams. It was a very sociable occasion, with beer and burgers for sale at the village hall after the race. The prize giving was a lively, well attended affair, with effusive applause for the winning teams in each category.
