David Teague blasted a superb 139 in Monmouth Cricket Club's crushing 177-run home demolition of Upper Rhondda in the Thomas, Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League.

And seamer Andy Bowley stepped up from the seconds to bag five for 35 as Monmouth secured their second Division Three victory of the campaign.

Monmouth will be expecting a much sterner test at fellow league newcomers Pontymister, who are based in Risca, this Saturday (2nd June).

Former Newport all-rounder Teague cracked 18 fours and four sixes in his 136-ball knock which propelled Monmouth, sponsored by JD Wetherspoon, to an impressive 301 for six against Upper Rhondda in last weekend's clash.

Keeper Josh Grey smashed 77, containing 11 fours and a six, and shared a match-winning 210-run stand for Monmouth's second wicket on an excellent track at the Sports Ground.

Ben Turner weighed in with 27 before Gareth Hughes (14 not out) and Jonathan Roberts (10 not out) hit quick runs for the hosts in the closing stages of their 45-over innings.

After the interval, vice-captain Dan Risk (one for 34) took an early wicket and instigated a fine run-out as the Treorchy outfit struggled to chase Monmouth's mammoth total on a hot afternoon.

Only opener Darren Moore (46) and Pete Webb (17) offered any real resistance for the visitors before five-star Bowley and left-arm spinner Jonathan Jones (three for 25) got among the wickets.

Bowley also took a catch, while there were good catches from Matthew Jones (two), Roberts, and Aled Jones as Upper Rhondda were shot out for just 124 in 31.4 overs.

The match balls were sponsored by Ancre Hill Vineyard and president John Wigmore.

Meanwhile, Monmouth will be travelling to Division One outfit Blackwood Town in the third round of the Gwalia Welsh Cup on Sunday 17th June.
