YOUNGSTERS at Monmouth Comprehensive School have been bowled over by their new cricket equipment.
Monmouth Cricket Club and Cricket Wales teamed up with the school to secure a colts' under-13 kit bag from The Lord's Taverners.
Liam Stubbs, who works as a teacher at the school, is running a popular, weekly indoor after-school cricket session with the pupils.
The children used the new bats, pads, gloves and helmets for the first time at their indoor training last week.
"We are delighted that the cricket club has marked our new partnership by providing the school with a fantastic new kit bag of equipment from The Lord's Taverners," said Liam.
"The equipment is first-class and we're grateful to the cricket club who paid for it and Steve Watkins, from Cricket Wales, who supported our application.
"Our winter sessions have been very well attended and, with the help of coaches from the club, we're finding genuine cricket talent at Monmouth Comprehensive School."
Liam is the new Sunday team captain at Monmouth Cricket Club and has just taken his UKCC level one coaching assessment.
Club vice-chairman Ian Morgan, a level two-qualified coach and former pupil, has been helping Liam at the cricket sessions.
"Liam is the brains behind this new partnership and the club are thrilled to be supporting his work," said Ian.
"He's keen, well organised and delivers fun and enjoyable cricket sessions. We are all proud of his efforts."
