Monmouth sprinter Ryan Lee competed in the UK school games last week at the Olympic stadium in London.

Ryan had qualified for this prestigious event and was part of the Welsh squad at the games which was held from 6th to 9th May. He took part in the 4x100m relay and in the 200m straight final.

Ryan ran the first leg of the relay and the Welsh team finished fifth overall. In his 200m race, Ryan also finished in fifth with a massive new personal best with a time of 22.23 seconds.

This was an amazing performance for Ryan as he was up against the very best sprinters in the UK in the under 17s age group.

Ryan said the whole experience and the memories will stay with him forever.

On the Sunday evening, Sebastian Coe hosted the opening ceremony at the Excel centre which, according to Ryan, felt more like the Brit awards.

There was a host of past and present Olympic legends at the ceremony which included Jonathon Edwards, Lynn Davies, Darren Campbell, Jason Gardiner and many more.

All of the Welsh squad had a chance to meet and chat with the athletes, receiving autographs and many photos.

During the following two days, the athletes watched their teammates from other disciplines of the games like gymnastics, fencing, rugby and hockey compete.

When it came to the Wednesday, all of the different disciplines made their way to the Olympic stadium to watch the athletics compete, before the Olympic games start later this summer.

Ryan said it was an honour for him to run in the Olympic Stadium and represent his country, also having the likes of Usain Bolt running in his footsteps is a great inspirational feeling.

Over the last eight weeks Ryan has stepped up his training at Cwmbran to get himself ready for the school games and he would like to thank his coach Dave Norton for all his work with the extra sessions.

The next event for Ryan is the Welsh Regional Championships at Cardiff.
