Monmouth sprinter Ryan Lee continued with his UK school games selection success by winning two gold medals at Cardiff International sport stadium last Saturday (19th May) in the South and East Wales championships.

In the u17 mens 100m race, Ryan actually finished second to Thomas Williams, who represented South Wales, but Ryan automatically took the gold medal and first place for East Wales with a new personal best of 11.13 seconds.

In the u17 mens 200m, the two athletes lined up in lanes next to each other and finally after two years of competing and getting so close, Ryan beat Thomas Williams and won the race.

Ryan and Tom both represented Wales at the UK school games recently and are team mates and have become friends, so this coming season will be very exciting as they both will be competing in the 100 and 200 meters for the u17 men at many different meetings around Wales and the UK.

Ryan has now been selected for the Inter Regional Championships at Cardiff on 14th July on the back of his two first places, which this year is part of the 2012 Gemau Cymru, and there will be increased media interest on the day and the first placed athletes in the track and field events will receive a Welsh gold medal.

This will give Ryan and Tom and the other selected athletes an even greater challenge to become the overall champion for 2012.

Next season Ryan and Tom will move up to the U20 age group but already both athletes are quicker than many of the older men so they both will relish the challenge.

Also at the event on Saturday, it was a privilege to see Christian Malcolm run in the senior mens 200m, which he won in convincing style.

After the race Ryan had a chat with him and Christian stayed and had his photo taken with some of the athletes and signed autographs, it was a great day for all who were there.

Ryan's next meeting is at Cwmbran this Sunday (27th May).
