A bumper field of 340 runners headed over the old Severn Bridge from Wales into England and back on Friday night, in the Rogueruns Spring twilight race.

Starting and finishing on the Chepstow side, Bristol-based Luke Hollyman just pipped Cardiff AAC junior Oliver Price by six seconds to take the overall win, crossing in 27 minutes 47 seconds.

Fastest local runner was Tim Batchelor of Chepstow Harriers who finished fifth in 28.54, while clubmate and veteran over-55 runner Niki Morgan produced an amazing run to take the fastest woman crown and 13th overall in 32.28.

Caldicot AC’s Owen Staddon was 15th in 32.47, three places and seven seconds up on Harriers’ Charlie Bendall.

Second woman home was Gloucester AC’s Emma Jeffery in 34.52, closely followed by Caerleon RC’s Siwan Purkis in 34.55.

Spirit of Monmouth runner James Exton was 49th and sixth fastest over-50 man in 36.38.

Harriers’ Helen Duffield placed second in the women’s over-45 category, crossing in 38.27.
