MONMOUTH youth pulled off a great performance in a friendly against Cwmbran last Saturday, despite the opposition playing two leagues higher.
With Cwmbran able to choose from 25 players that travelled to Monmouth, the home side were under pressure with only a squad of 16 to use, depleted by work commitments and a clash with the Wales vs Italy match. However they were still able to hold the score to 0-0 at half time. It was only when Cwmbran were able to pull on their hordes of subs languishing like Roman legions in the arena, waiting to pick off the tired Monmouth gladiators that the hosts fell to the stronger team.
Next week, the boys are hosting Pill in their first match of the season in the Welsh Youth Bowl Cup and the spirit they showed augers well for the season.
