WRU National League 3 East A - Monmouth 14 Usk 11

MONMOUTH RFC continued their progress in the league with a hard-fought home win over Usk on Wednesday (25th April).

It was the second victory in 10 days over their local rivals, who fielded a much changed and more determined team after the 9-29 result on 14th April.

A poor first half showing from the home side left them 11-0 adrift at the break, but Monmouth showed great character in the second half to comeback with two converted tries from back rowers Tom Hawkins and Scott Giles: the latter a result of a fantastic forward effort and a pushover try.

A defeat for second-placed Newport HSOB means Monmouth have leapfrogged their promotion rivals into second placed and are now just seven points behind league leaders Abergavenny with four games in hand.

Monmouth’s next game comes on Saturday, at home to Chepstow.
