RUGBY teams are gearing up for the return of the senior league season, with Monmouth on the road to Nelson next Saturday (September 19) for their WRU East One opener.
That’s followed by another away trip to face Bedlinog on Saturday, September 26, before their first home league fixture against Brynmawr (Saturday, October 10), who will provide a big test after dropping down last year term from the Championship.
They will be at home before facing the mighty Mawr though, when they host local rivals Newport HSOB on Saturday, October 3, in the WRU One Cup.
Meanwhile, two of their junior athletes, Jay Roberts and Dylan Lane-Mayo, have been selected by the Pontypool Schools & District Rugby team for the upcoming 2026/2027 season.
Both Jay and Dylan have consistently shown their passion and skill on the pitch while currently playing for Monmouth RFC in their U10s and U11s squads.
Building on this strong club foundation, earning a place on the Pontypool Schools & District squad is a big achievement for the boys and testament to the dedication, resilience, and talent they have demonstrated, and for Jay a second year running.
The selection process for this district team is competitive, drawing the best young rugby players from across the region.
For Jay and Dylan to be recognised at this level speaks volumes about their hard work during training at Monmouth and their exemplary performance during matches.
As they step up to represent the district, Jay and Dylan will have the opportunity to train with top-tier coaches and compete against some of the strongest youth teams in the area.
This experience will undoubtedly help them further develop their athletic abilities, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Monmouth junior rugby is very proud to see them wear the Pontypool Schools & District colours this season and wishes them lots of luck for the season ahead.
