MONMOUTH RFC have announced their Rockfield Distillery Player of the Month awards for March and April.

Club stalwart Joe Christopher deservedly won the March honour.

Joe – so often understudy to Club captain Ed White – has featured in every League game in the 2023/24 season which means he has only missed two games in the last two seasons.

Head Coach Chay Billen said: "Joe proved to be 'Mr Consistency' throughout March.

"His trusty arm at the line-out has given Monmouth greater attacking options to work off at the set piece."

The April winner is back row star Jack Edwards, an effervescent presence in every game he plays.

He tackles ferociously and gallops around the park in support of his teammates and is always a great asset to Monmouth rugby.

Chay Billen added: "After a challenging year with two nasty facial injuries, Jack has put in strong performances to finish the season on a high and is a very worthy winner of the Player of the Month Award for April."

While Monmouth have already finished their WRU East One fixtures finishing eighth, champions Brynmawr took on second-placed Talywain at home on Saturday, and pipped them 16-11 with a last-gasp score to reach the 100-point mark.

At the other end, Risca have to beat Nelson at home on Wednesday night (May 8) to stand any chance of avoiding the drop at Pontypool United’s expense.

Meanwhile, Monmouth School RFC and Wales U18 star Oliver Woodman has signed a three-year contract with the Dragons Development set-up while studying at Cardiff University.

"Oli, we're immensely proud of your achievement and wish you the very best in your rugby journey."
