GIRLS from the U16 squad at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School made history by becoming the first girls’ team from the school to compete in the Rosslyn Park National School Sevens.

The U14s squad played four matches showing immense determination throughout the games.

The team was led by captain Caitlin who scored several converted tries and helped secure a memorable victory over Radnor House Twickenham. There were further outstanding performances across the team with a special mention to the vice-captains Elli and Seren.

Some of the pupils reflected on the achievement and what it was like playing ay Rosslyn Park.

“Being part of Rosslyn Park was a fantastic opportunity, and it something that we can build on in the future,” said one student.

Another student said: “It was a great chance to see some high-quality rugby being played. I learned a lot from watching our Under 18 boys play that day too.”

Some of the girls from the team had only been playing for just a matter of weeks before competing in the West of England tournament and then at Rosslyn Park.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth extended their appreciation to the coaching team: Dr Sion Wall, Dr Alex Leigh, Mr Richie Rees and Mrs Rhiannon Lord as well as the parents for cheering them on during the matches.
