With the 1sts taking the weekend off, it was a chance for the Druids to take centre stage, and they did just that with a 56-14 first win of the season to go fourth in the Dragons League.

There were two tries apiece for skipper Adam Roberts, Liam Churches and Jacob Hartles, and one each for Ben Payton and Isaac Evans.

Elsewhere, Chepstow Druids and hosts Southmead shared nearly 100 points in a friendly, but it was the Bristol side who ran out winners 61-38.

Tom Cousins scored two tries for the visitors, and Reef Keyte, Kobe Huntley, Rob Pickup and Kieran Hoskings also went over.

While Monmouth 1sts had a bye in the first round of the WRU One Cup, their East One rivals were in action, but their two nearest neighbours both missed out.

Abergavenny lost 25-16 at home to St Albans, and Blaenavon were dumped out 41-5 at home by Dowlais.

It's back to league action this weekend (October 4), with Monmouth 1sts hosting Blackwood, Abergavenny travelling to near neighbours Brynmawr, Blaenavon at Nelson, Usk hosting Newport Saracens, and Chepstow visiting Caerleon.

Meanwhile, just over the border, Forest clubs are cheering the fact that one of their own starred in England’s 33-13 Women’s World Cup final victory over Canada.

Natasha ‘Mo’ Hunt started her career at her home town club Drybrook RFC and played scrum-half for the Red Roses on Saturday at Twickenham, being the only starter from the last time England lifted the World Cup, back in 2014.

"This is unimaginable – the day, the whole tournament. To walk out in front of nearly 82,000 and perform like that, I could not be prouder of the girls. I am so overwhelmed, I am absolutely buzzing," she said.
