RFC's family fun day on Sunday followed on the back of a week of rugby activity in the town, starting with a three day long Shane Williams Rugby Academy, with guest appearance from new Wales star Alex Cuthbert. Saturday saw the final trial game for the 1st XV preceding the opening of the new season next weekend, after their triumphant 2011-12 campaign.
Sunday was a more light hearted affair but the six mixed age group teams (aged 10 to 45 years) competed hard in the touch rugby and 'throw the ball through the mouth' competition to entertain the crowd on the day, alongside enjoying themselves on the free bungee run, bouncy castle and feasting on Neil James's famous steak sandwiches, all washed down with local Ty Gwyn Cider (the adults of course!).
Monmouth joined forces with the WRU and the regional development team from the Newport Gwent Dragons to promote and deliver the day under the 'Join the Beat' grass roots initiative to promote and develop rugby across Wales. Thank you to Christian Hitt and the team for supporting the day.
Sunday 2nd September is registration day for Monmouth Young Rugby, from 9:30am to midday at the rugby club on Chippenham Gate Street. If interested please come along or check out our web site for further information on Junior and Senior Rugby http://www.monmouthrfc.com">www.monmouthrfc.com
