Raglan Parc Seniors returned to form in the South Wales Charity Classic last Friday (17th May), winning a very close match by two matches to one against Glyn Abbey.
Having been soundly beaten in the first round of the competition, Raglan were again playing in the Plate Competition which they won two years ago and were very pleased to progress to the second round.
In the first game Terry Davies and John Phelps played some excellent golf easily running out four and three winners.
Having finished their match early, Terry and John had an anxious wait while their team mates fought hard against determined opposition.
In the end Brian Lewis and Gary French were unlucky to lose by two and one which left everything to the last pairing of Richard Phillips and Graham Jones.
The first 18 holes were not enough to separate the two teams and so a nineteenth hole had to be played with Richard and Graham stepping up to the plate to win their game and the match overall.
Non-playing captain Ray York was a very relieved and happy man after the game.
"I usually look forward to the nineteenth but this was far from the normal relaxing affair in the bar," he said.
"We have played against Glyn Abbey several times in the last few years, always away, so despite the journey it almost felt like a home match."
