LEWYS Jones and Justin Thornhill took three wickets each as Chepstow Cricket Club’s second XI bowled out Radyr seconds for 148 with two deliveries remaining, at Mathern Road.

Young Lewys took 3-31 in his nine overs and Justin took 3-28 in just 6.4 overs to polish off the visitors’ tail-end order in the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Cricket League Second XI Division 1.

Mitchell Harris chipped in with two wickets for the loss of 42 runs in eight overs with Josh Tregaskes and Huw Rogers taking one apiece.

Radyr wickets fell steadily with six of the first seven batsmen into double figures before returning to the pavilion.

But when they took to the field, 30 extras with 28 of them being wides, didn’t help their cause.

Chepstow opener Mitchell Harris carried his bat to make 56, including nine boundaries, while his partner Luke Watson contributed 40 before departing.

Tuhin Gavand seemed set for another good score but was caught on 14 and it was left to Harris and David Bennett (11 not out) to steer Chepstow to victory in 26 overs for the loss of two wickets.

At Mill Lane, Sudbrook’s second XI also tasted victory, beating Pontypridd Seconds by nine wickets.

Pontypridd were restricted to a meagre 126 all out in two deliveries short of their 45-over innings.

The demolition job was thanks to Jordan Bajjada who took 3-10 with two maidens in his seven overs, Chris Burgess 2-13 in three overs and skipper Jamie Watkins 2-6 in 16 deliveries.

In response, Sudbrook soon reached their target as Matt Spencer made 57, featuring eight fours and one six, and combined with Jamie Watkins who made 54 (with seven fours) to wrap up victory after losing an early wicket.
