MONMOUTH's junior rowers have made a flying start to 2013 with four championship medals.

Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls' raced to silver in the top junior eights class in the national Schools' Head over the reverse Boat Race course in London, while their U14s quadruple scull took bronze at the UK Junior Sculling Head on the London Olympic lake.

And Monmouth School's U16 boys four then landed gold at the British Inter-Regional junior championships in Nottingham, while Haberdashers' U16 girls four also landed silver.

The Schools' Head result was a best-ever as Haberdashers' eight of Elena Williams, Emily Rosser, Rachel Long, Emma Richardson, Charlotte Gill, Lara Hawkins, Rachel Tilley, Pippa England and cox Felicity Cronin chased home winners Headington in 20 minutes and four seconds to push Sir William Perkins into third by 10 seconds.

It was the first time in 10 years the school has entered an eight in the Blue Riband event, with the second eight also being the fastest reserve crew home. England at stroke is just 15, and her brother Will also stroked the Monmouth School first eight to 20th overall in the 300-boat race in 18.09.

Haberdashers' U14 quad scull Hannah Lincoln, Jo Frankel, Gabby Du Toit, Aoife Gray and cox Felicity Cronin then took bronze at Dorney Lake after just a week's work in the boat together.

They were dead level on time for third after the first leg of the 2,000m track with Lady Eleanor Holles, but then beat them by four seconds on the way back for a combined time of 15mins 12.4secs, finishing third out of 48.

At the Inter-Regionals in Nottingham, Monmouth School's Louis Peace, Joel Leeb Du Toit, Alex Buhaenko, Josh Gibson and cox Gabriel Cronin won an epic U14 fours final representing Wales and the West.

On the line, under one second covered the first three home, with the Wye boys winning from North West and Upper Thames.

Cox Cronin's sister Felicity was again on the podium in the U16 girls' final, steering home Emilia Bridgin, Emma Richardson, Charlotte Gill and Pippa England to silver just a length behind Thames Central with Upper Thames third.
