Town drew a blank for a second week running last Saturday (1st November), following a 21 goal blast in four games.

The team could have clinched all three points here but in the end settled happily for a point after Ashley Ford's dismissal on 62 minutes had reduced them to ten men.

This was no boring draw however, as two title chasing sides went at it hammer and tong for the duration of the game – the woodwork getting a battering no fewer than six times and both keepers had to be on their best form.

Throw in Ford's red card and the ensuing 22 man handbags session and you have good afternoon's entertainment for any neutrals taking the trouble to take the trip to Glenhafod Park Stadium.

The Kingfishers started by far the brighter team, hoping to shrug off the lack-lustre defeat against Cambrian & Clydach. They were missing regulars Dan Clare, Jack Alderdice, Elliot Ford and Nick Harrhy but Loftus came into central midfield with Laurie reverting to centre half and both men had excellent games.

Once again chances came and went with Evans going close and Palmer passing up some opportunities. At other times MacDonald dictated play but didn't quite manage to breach the home defence. The couple of chances that fell Goytre's way tended to have been due to misplaced Monmouth passes or dwelling too long on the ball rather than any incisive creativity from the Port Talbot-based former Welsh champions.

In the gripping final ten minutes of the half, Guy and Palmer both rattled the cross bar with a header and a shot. Loftus put in Ham when arguably better placed himself, and saw the flying winger hit the outside netting. Laurie just failed to convert a MacDonald corner and the home keeper pulled of a superb save to deny the irrepressible Town number 10.

The second half was a similar pattern although United seemed better able to keep Town at bay. Their job was made easier as Ford went for a full-blooded challenge that upended a Goytre player right in front of the home dug out and resulted in a red card.

From there it was clear that although Town had the wherewithal to win the game, they could only do so by leaving themselves exposed at the back as Loftus filled in leaving Bull to forage alone for the last half hour.

Blackburn's goal was now under constant threat but the former Newport County 'keeper was up to the task, tipping a great effort onto a post, flinging himself to his left to deny another great effort and showing his bravery in blocking double effort with his body.

Town still threatened on the break and Ham hit the bar again with superb dipping effort. Bull fired wide then just failed to get on the end of a late run and pass by Ham which would have clinched the game for the Kingfishers. Some good defending saw the game out in a much-improved display from the Kingfishers.
