A simply stunning performance by defending Welsh League champions Monmouth Town demolished a lacklustre Aberdare Town to go second in the league. Dan MacDonald and Elliot Ford both notched hat-tricks in a game in which the Kingfishers could easily have scored double figures. It was Monmouth's record score at Welsh League level, made all the more surprising given Aberdare's half decent start to the season and the fact they were missing strike duo Nick Harrhy and the suspended Chris Ham. Stand-in striker Josh Bull grabbed his chance in the third minute, finishing a sweeping move with a sweet volley to make it 1-0. Monmouth continued to take the game to the hosts and MacDonald made it 2-0 on 17 minutes as his free-kick evaded everyone and nestled in at the far post. A minute later Elliot Ford continued his return from injury, heading home from a superb cross from Sam Palmer in for Ham. Worse was to come for Aberdare as Lewis was dismissed on 20 minutes for a foul and some afters on Ford. Strangely the 10 men of Aberdare rallied and possibly had the better of the rest of the half until Ford grabbed his second with a good strike on 35 minutes to make it 4-0 at half-time. He grabbed his hat-trick five minutes into the second half, drilling a low shot under the young Aberdare 'keeper as the Kingfishers piled on the pressure. There was no denying the movement of Monmouth's forward players as wave after wave of attack brought chances. Bull headed over when well placed then should have done better with a chance when clear before Eliot Evans evaded a number of tackles and curled a beauty into the corner for number six. Then MacDonald hit a post and Aaron Davies hit the bar with a bicycle kick. MacDonald grabbed another and sealed his hat-trick and sixth goal in two games since his return from Merthyr with a sweet finish on 83 minutes. With the last action of the game, Clare's loose pass let in Bradford to gain what would have been a consolation if the defeat wasn't so comprehensive. That the Monmouth players seemed annoyed summed up a great performance and great attitude. It is one they will have to take into the next game this Friday (19th September) as they tackle last year's runners-up Taffs Well, who have lost four consecutive games,  in a mouth watering game which could send the Kingfishers top of the table for the first time this season. Kick off 7.30pm at Pen y pound Stadium.
