Monmouth Town Football Club organised a girls-only football tournament at Kymin View Primary School last Wednesday afternoon (24th October).

All schools in and around Monmouth were invited to the festival, organised by Jon Webb of Kymin View.

The festival was organised to encourage as many girls as possible to participate in playing football, and Monmouth Town will be running girls-only football sessions every Saturday at Monmouth leisure centre on the astro turf from 10am.

A Monmouth Town spokesperson said: "It was great to see so many girls there on Wednesday enjoying playing football, the girls were having a lot of fun.

"We will be running the sessions each week with a view to creating a girls football team to play regular fixtures and to create a girls section to the club, to hopefully run several teams for all age groups as we do for boys teams.

"We have over 250 players training and playing football each week and the plan is to duplicate this success to provide opportunities for girls to participate and enjoy the beautiful game.

"We would like to thank Mr Webb, who organised the tournament, as well as Michelle Swann of Kymin View School for the opportunity to stage the event at the school and for all their hard work in planning and preparing the pitches and refreshments on the day."
