TWO determined Monmouth schoolgirls have been selected to play hockey for Wales.
Mary and Amy, both in Year 10 at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls (HMSG) have both been selected to play hockey for Wales.
Both girls play hockey for the HMSG Under 15 team; Amy is the captain, and Mary is the vice-captain. They also train with Gwent Hockey Club every week.
Both girls have dreamt of playing for Wales since they were 10 years of age and are both delighted to have achieved their dream of being selected for the Under 16 Wales Hockey team. Mary plays goalkeeper, and Amy plays as a forward.
Mary said: “Being the goalkeeper for Wales has been my dream for as long as I can remember and I am over the moon to be representing Wales against Scotland, and to be playing for my country, in Lithuania next month. Amy and I have trained hard together, every week, and are thrilled to be selected.”
Both Amy and Mary were awarded their Welsh caps last weekend in Scotland and are thrilled to representing their school, club, and country on the hockey pitch.
Amy added: “It is a huge privilege to be selected to play for Wales. It doesn’t get much better than being given such an honour; but even better to share the experience with your friends.”
