MONMOUTH School's 1st XV team remain undefeated in the NatWest Schools Cup, having emerged victorious at Sherborne Rugby Club, defeating The Gryphon School with a score of 19–8.

With Monmouth's trademark commitment to defence ever apparent, the score was 19 – 0 at the end of the first half.

Scorers were Owen Hughes (from a 10m driving maul), Milan Wagner, who received the ball off a 5m scrum in the corner, and Owen once more with a pick and go from two meters away from the try line. Tom Starkey converted the first and second tries.

John Bevan, Master of Rugby at Monmouth School, previously said of the team: "They take pride in each other's performances and never criticise anybody – it sounds clichéd, but they have a very good team spirit."

The team moves forward in the competition to play Hampton School today (Wednesday 28th January) at home.

Monmouth School has also learned who it will play in the prestigious Marches 7's tournament, set to take place on Saturday 1st March.
