MONMOUTH Cricket Club will be facing their biggest challenge of the season this Saturday with an away clash against Lisvane. Lisvane are based at an impressive ground at Paramount Business Park in the St Mellons area of Cardiff and lie second in the Thomas, Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League Division Three. Lisvane have added to their squad since last summer and are favourites to win the title. Monmouth, sponsored by JD Wetherspoon, are fourth in the division after picking up two wins from three completed matches. Skipper Ben Turner will be praying for dry skies after Monmouth's home match against Cardiff Gymkhana was washed out last weekend. Martin Newell has stood down as Monmouth's second-team skipper due to work commitments and will be concentrating on his playing and chairman's duties at the club. Luke Bowley and the experienced Rick Parkes will be stepping up to lead Monmouth's second team, who host basement-boys Ebbw Vale 2nd this Saturday. Monmouth 2nd are fourth in 2nd XI Division Three of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League after their match in Llandaff against Cardiff Gymkhana 2nd was cancelled last weekend due to heavy rain. Talented left-arm spinner Ben Davies snapped up 3-23 to inspire Wales Under-12s to a 40-run win over Herefordshire Under-13s at Brockhampton. Ben, who lives in Wyesham, turned the match in Wales' favour in his outstanding eight-over spell after his side had amassed 191 from 40 overs. Ben, who is a key member of Monmouth's flourishing junior set-up, is due to play for Wales today (Wednesday) against Devon. Monmouth Under-9s soft-ball team will be travelling the short distance to Panteg on Friday evening for a Gwent area festival, starting at 5.30pm for 6pm, organised by Lee Herring. Monmouth will be hosting a Gwent area under-9 soft-ball festival on Friday 27th June, while the youngsters are also playing at Abergavenny on Friday 13th June and at Llanarth on Friday 11th July. Meanwhile, Monmouth Cricket Club are hosting two representative matches this week. Gwent Under-15s face Herefordshire on Friday in a 50-overs-a-side match at Monmouth Sports Ground, starting at 11am. And, on Sunday, Gwent Under-10s play Devon at Monmouth Cricket Club in a 35-overs-a-side match, starting at 1pm. The club have also added two new representative matches to their list of fixtures. The Welsh disabled cricket team will be playing home matches at Monmouth Cricket Club on Sunday 8th June, starting at 2.30pm, and on Sunday 22nd June beginning at 2pm
