After several pre-season training sessions over the past couple of weeks Monmouth first team took on Cathedral School Llandaff in their opening fixture in the ISFA cup. The 16-man squad travelled down to Cardiff on Wednesday evening, to play their first game of the season.

Monmouth started strongly, controlling possession early utilising the pace of the wingbacks Jake Talbot and Luke Rees on the flanks. Douglas May and Zac Williams came close, but after a longshot, that was parried by the keeper, it fell to Ryan Stanley who made it 1-0. Vice-captain, Alfie Baillie prevented the attackers of Llandaff with some great saves and stops. Monmouth kept creating chances and left the field at half time, the far dominant team.

Monmouth continued at fast tempo with Noah Rice, Harry Bailey and Todd Rollison playing through the lines , finding the feet of our strikers. It was a header from captain Tommy Chubb that made it 2-0 and swiftly after, Ryan made it 3 following a pinpoint long ball from Lewys Evans. The fourth came shortly after with Will Lewis finding Jake Talbot whose shot caused the defender to score an own goal. The fifth and final goal came from good pressing by Logan Williams and quick thinking from Arthur Lawson, who took it round the keeper and slotted it away with a composed finish. The team are looking forward to the next round where they face Malvern at home and are excited for the upcoming football season.
