Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club had an impressive nine members taking part in Spring Marathons across the UK in Brighton, Llanelli and London during April. Sue Barker, Esme Doyle, Emma King, Stephen Barratt, Allan Meek, Mark Ward and Simone Traylen-Thomas all took to the streets of London with over 34,000 others who proudly crossed the finish line with Lisa Evans taking part in the Llanelli Marathon and David Mather Brighton Marathon. The arduous preparations to run this gruelling distance of 26.2 miles started back in 2013 for most of the runners, all very tired after their impressive performances but happy and they will now be enjoying a well deserved rest before starting training for their next race. Allan Meek was the first male marathon runner for the club in a time of 3 hours and 34 minutes. Allan overcame injury to take part in the Virgin London Marathon and was very pleased with his time. Emma King was the first female home in a personal best of 3 hours and 52 minutes with a number of improved times from the other members of the club also. The Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club is an all inclusive Running Club affiliated to Welsh Athletics which caters for all levels of running ability and welcomes new members.
