After having two family members diagnosed with bowel cancer, a Monmouthshire man is running a half marathon every day to raise money for charity.

James Peters, pictured, is hoping his efforts to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK will encourage people to get screened for the disease. James, 38, from Raglan started running 21.1km everyday on September 16 and hopes to complete this challenge by Christmas eve. So far, he has raised more than £1,300 of his £2,000 goal for the charity through his JustGiving page.He works for a leading endoscopy supplier and assists and trains other health professionals on the latest equipment to treat bowel cancer.Through his 15 years in the profession, as well as his personal experience of family members having bowel cancer, James embarked on this endurance challenge to raise awareness and show how important it is to catch it early through a screening. James said happily both family members affected by bowel cancer "have been successfully treated thanks to our fantastic NHS" as a result of catching the cancer early enough. James emphasised the simplicity of the test that you can do at home when invited for a screening. "If there is cause for further investigation, it’s a day case procedure lasting about 30 minutes. ’’If there are any polyps they can be removed quickly and painlessly during the procedure before they grow to become something more sinister" says James. If something more worrying is discovered, you are then in the right hands. For the past four years, James has run every day usually between 5km and 10km. James told the Beacon that his interest in running came after having a stern look at himself after years of poor self-care. "So far I have lost about five stone in my effort to get fit" added James. "I get up at 4.30am and aim to head out at 5am" James stated. "Physically it’s not too bad, mentally it’s a real drag but I know I have to do it at that time as I also have work." Each half marathon takes him an hour and 45 minutes. James says "leaving the house at that hour in the dark, cold and sometimes rain, is hard." He praises his wife Nicky who gets up with their two children, Henry, five and William, three and also cooks’ breakfast for the family. He states he is "eternally grateful for her support" throughout the challenge. All of James’ runs are documented on his Instagram page @runeveryday_james. He encourages everybody to track his progress through this account as well as check he has completed every run. When the challenge is complete, he will have totalled 2110km over 100 days. For the final run, James will be running through Monmouth and is happy for anyone to join him! Further details on the final half marathon will be found on his Instagram page.Anybody who would like to donate to this charity can do so through www.justgiving.com/fundraising/james-peters15
