Two goals from Dan MacDonald sealed a routine win for the Kingfishers and set up a crunch third versus fourth meeting against 2011 Welsh League winners Cambrian and Clydach next Saturday at the Sports Ground (2.30pm).

The visitors were in a relegation dog fight and came looking for points to ease their worries and in the opening minutes looked like they were capable of getting something from the game.

Monmouth, playing for the first time at home since 4th January looked a little rusty and took a while to get into their groove.

With Corey Jenkins making his first home start Town looked to have some pace down the left and as they started to click Jenkins was to the fore and it was his movement from a throw in prompted by manager Steve Jenkins that brought the first goal as he outpaced his defender and finished smartly at the 'keeper's near post.

That settled any early nerves and from there the Kingfishers sponsored by WyeMedia and Seven Seas started to move the ball a lot better with MacDonald darting here and there and Harrhy's movement creating openings.

Harrhy had the ball in the net with what looked like a diving header but was in reality a Maradona-like attempt to con the referee with a hand ball which earned the striker a yellow card.

Earlier Dean Lee had perhaps been fortunate to get way with just a yellow after a full blooded challenge had left a Pontardawe player injured.

Towards the end of the half, MacDonald  smashed a quick free kick from 30 yards into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

The second half was pretty much one way traffic although Pontardawe did have the odd break-out attempt.

MacDonald grabbed his second of the game and 16th of the season and legendary striker Julian Alsop came on mid-way though the half to play a lovely cameo home debut with neat touches and flicks, birthday boy Dean Palmer also got some game time to stake his claim for future weeks and Skupinski also had a run out.

Pontardawe keeper was also badly injured late on in a clash of heads with Danny Clare.

Town stay fourth in the table but are four points off top with two games in hand over their rivals.

Saturday's game will go a long way to deciding whether they have genuine title ambitions as they continue a run of seven home games from eight.
