Spirit of Monmouth Running Club revived the ever popular Kymin Dash back in April after a three-year break, with club members joining forces with the previous organisers to bring the race back into the racing calendar.

It was a new multi-terrain seven-mile course that took runners 850 foot up to The Kymin and attracted 120 entrants.

The 2013 race raised money for local charity Monmouth Aid, the charity are gathering funds to build a secondary school in their adopted area, Kemba in Ethiopia.

They have already funded three primary schools in the area and there  is now a pressing need for more secondary education.

The school will cost £30,000 to build and equip which is a fraction of comparable costs in the UK but still a lot for a small charity to find; the people benefiting are among the poorest in the world and slowly their lot is improving.

The running club raised £250 for the charity on the day which was kindly matched by Barclays Bank, Monmouth Aid were presented with a cheque for £500.

The cheque was presented to Dick McPherson of Monmouth Aid by race director Emma King; Bob Smith, manager of Barclays in Monmouth, and Karen Barratt of Spirit of Monmouth.

The running club would like to thank Monmouth School Sports Centre and Robert Price for sponsoring the event.

The 2014 Kymin Dash will take place on Sunday 27th April and entries are welcome. For further information visit http://www.spiritof">www.spiritof
