A school’s young hockey starlets shone bright in the national finals, finishing runner-up in the U14s age group.

The Monmouth School for Girls team battled through to the gold-medal match in Hockey Wales’ National Schoolgirls Finals.

They played superbly throughout the day in Swansea, achieving four comprehensive wins before being pipped 1-0 by Cardiff outfit Ysgol Glantaf in the final.

Monmouth topped their pool after impressive victories against Bishopston (2-0), Rydal Penrhos (3-0) and Bro Dinefwr (5-0).

The girls then swept past Christ College Brecon 3-0 in their semi-final.

Monmouth dominated possession for the majority of a nail-biting final against Glantaf.

But despite creating lots of opportunities, they couldn’t break through and Glantaf hit the only goal to clinch the title.

The Monmouth girls dazzled in their four runaway victories and were wonderful ambassadors for the school, following on from the U18 team who triumphed in their national finals the previous week.
