CHEPSTOW Harriers’ women came first out of ten running clubs in south Wales at the Gwent Leisure Centre league race at Parc Penallta on Tuesday 28th July.

Chepstow Harriers’ men came second, with their B and C teams in first place. The women’s B team also came first, with the C team in second place.

There were 296 competitors taking part with 45 of those being Chepstow Harriers.

The course was 4.8 miles, on gravel tracks, and included two climbs to challenge the lungs.

Despite the occasional drops of rain, the cool temperature made conditions favourable for the runners.

Ladies team captain Sophie Gilbert said: “I am overwhelmed at the strength and depth of our women’s teams at the moment.

“They turn out consistently for these important league events and always give their all.

“The standard seems to get tougher with each race, but we are still holding our own.”

Men’s team captain James Blore said of his teams: “Our men put on a strong performance.

“We were lacking some of our top runners due to holidays and injuries, but even so, for our A team to come second, and our B and C teams to win, is no mean feat.

“It was a good evening for Chepstow.”
