On Sunday 26th April, 224 runners lined up to tackle the challenging, hilly, 20k multi-terrain race on and around Offa's Dyke in the Wye Valley.

The race was organised by Chepstow Harriers, and has a reputation for being very tough, with 480 feet of ascent. The weather was perfect for running, and with a prolonged dry spell, underfoot conditions made for some fast times.

The race started in Brockweir, and started with a brutal, long hill, before an eye-wateringly steep descent down 'Lemmings Leap' to Bigsweir. The runners then enjoyed a fast, flat section alongside the river, before another tough, long climb up onto the Offa's Dyke Path. A steep descent then made way for another flat section along a riverside footpath to Tintern, before the final stretch to Brockweir and the last sting in the tail hill before the finish. All the runners enjoyed free tea and Chepstow Harriers' legendary array of home-made cakes back at Mackenzie Hall in Brockweir.

Race director Colin Prosser said "I was delighted with how the race went. The positive comments from the runners have made all the effort worthwhile. Chepstow Harriers turned out in force to help with the many jobs that staging an event like this requires. We had members out marking the course in the small hours of the morning, marshals out on the course for over three hours, over 15 people baking a vast array of cakes to feed the hungry runners, and many others taking on necessary tasks to ensure the smooth running of the race."

Harry Jones from MDC was first overall in a time of one hour, 20 minutes. Second in was Andrew Reynolds of Neath Harriers in 1:23:04 and third was Tom Carpenter from Westbury Harriers in 1:24:19. In the women's race, Angela Jones from Fairwater was first in 1:36:35, Niki Morgan from Chepstow Harriers was second in 1:38:57, and Amy Jones from TACH was third in 1:41:18.

The men's team prize went to Neath Harriers, with Andrew Reynolds, Chris Fulcher and Daniel Tomlinson scoring. Chepstow Harriers won the women's team prize with Niki Morgan, Becci Commins and Louise Crockett scoring.

Chris Fulcher of Neath Harriers was first Male Vet 40, Phil Manning from Stroud AC was first Male Vet 50, and Phil Miles of Parc Bryn Bach was first Male Vet 60. Jackie Barnhouse was first Female Vet 40, Emma Collins from Denbigh Harriers was first Female Vet 50, and Catherine Fagg from TACH was first Female Vet 60.
