CHEPSTOW Harriers’ Paul Murrin won Rogueruns’ off-road night race in the Forest of Dean this week.

Paul Murrin was the overall winner of the very challenging, off-road night race held at Mosely Green on Thursday 12th November. Other Chepstow Harriers to scoop prizes were Neil Grant and Niki Morgan who won their age categories. Lisa Jeffries, Berna Cantwell and Steve Owen were second in their age categories.

The tough five mile race was hilly and muddy with twisting single track paths through the forest. A procession of head torches snaked through the woods, following reflective tape and arrows, and the odd reflective skeleton. The hungry runners returned to the Rising Sun pub for free sausages, chips, chocolate bars and a very well deserved medal.

Heavy rain was forecast but the runners managed to escape Storm Abigail, and had finished their forest adventure before the deluge arrived. Lots of muddy trainers were in evidence. All runners reported thoroughly enjoying their off-road jaunt through the woods.

The first three men home were Chepstow’s Paul Murrin with a clear lead, Keith Fairburn, and Dan Sanford from Forest of Dean. The first three women home were Kate Wray from Shelton Striders, Tara Grosvenor and Nicky Whiteman from Cheltenham Harriers.
