Members of a Monmouthshire golf club have raised vital funds for a charity close to their hearts.

Dick Bull, 2012 captain of The Rolls of Monmouth, began his term of office with a magnificent Captain's Drive In event that raised £500 for the Prader- Willi Syndrome Association of Great Britain.

On a glorious spring-like day, many members turned out to participate in a tightly-fought Stableford competition followed by a superb buffet lunch and then the formal Drive In by the men's, ladies' and seniors' captains.

Dick and his committee decided to donate the proceeds of the day to the PWSA on hearing that the granddaughter of Rolls member Geoff Walsh was diagnosed with this very rare genetic disorder days after her birth seven months ago.

Prader-Willi syndrome (often called PWS) is a complex medical condition that affects one in 15,000 people throughout their lives.

People with PWS need extra support with health and development and in the areas of education and work.

Dick said: "Although there is currently no cure for PWS, this generous contribution by the members of The Rolls will assist continuing research for effective treatments and hopefully for a cure one day."
