USK Town secured a superb 2-1 home win over higher-ranked Alway to go through to the last eight of the Gwent Premier County Motors Cup on Saturday.
The red mist descended and three players – two from the Newport side and one from the hosts – were given their marching orders in a feisty finale, but it didn't detract from Usk's performance.
Jamie Hawke fired the GP2 hosts in front on 36 minutes before Gene Gurie doubled their lead over the GP1 city side eight minutes into the second half.
Alway hit back to halve the deficit within four minutes and still more than half an hour to play.
But the Green Army held firm until tempers boiled over right on time and the ref reached for his red card before sounding the final whistle.
Llanarth meanwhile secured three points and a clean sheet beating basement visitors Fairfield Development 2-0 in Gwent Central 1.
The hosts took the lead in the 24th minute when Matthew Green timed his run perfectly to latch onto a through ball from Josh Phillips before firing past the keeper.
Llanarth continued to control proceedings whilst being kept at bay by a top class performance from the visitors’ goalkeeper.
But the points were secured in the 87th minute when debutant and former Merthyr Town player Gethyn Hill opened his account in style, producing a cheeky back-heel into the net following another assist from Phillips
Gwent Central 2 Usk Town 2nds were also celebrating a 4-2 win away to Sebastopol 2nds in the GC Benevolent Cup.
David Egerton put the visitors in front after seven minutes before the hosts responded eight minutes later.
The lead was then restored on 26 minutes by Matt Galletley, and Egerton then fired his second 10 minutes before half-time for 3-1.
Skipper Jamie Champion put the game to bed scoring from the spot for 4-1 with 20 minutes left, although the Pontypool hosts managed a second on 80 minutes.
