RAGLAN Rovers’ player-manager George Morgan declared himself pleased after seeing the newly-formed team beat Caerleon Town 6-4 in a pre-season friendly,

"We played extremely well against a seasoned side," Morgan said later.

"We dominated the first half, putting pressure on a resilient Caerleon defence and held a great shape.

"In the second half, fitness took its toll but considering it’s only our second game we can be delighted with the win, and hopefully the momentum will carry through to the start of the season.

"Town played well and really came out to get us in the second half and I think both teams were of equal quality."

Town boss Richard Verrinder was happy with his team’s performance.

"It was an excellent first challenge for us," he said. "There was some great football played by both sides with lots of chances created and all played in a great competitive spirit."

Rovers’ goals were scored by Jack Mayo (3), Jordan Heales, Sam Vaughan and Alex Davies with Craig Woodruff (2), Lee Garland and Kristin Haggett (pen) replying for Town.

Rovers will be playing in the North Gwent Sunday League when the 2016/17 season begins.
