THE race for the Division One title saw two of the main contenders battle out a 3-3 draw at the weekend, while last season’s Golden Boot winner Geraint Reynolds hammered eight goals in a spectacular 14-2 goal feast.

With Thornwell and Mathern Reserves A busy in cup action, Underwood welcomed Severn Tunnel knowing three points won by one side could be a bitter blow for the other side’s aspirations of gaining promotion to the Gwent County League next season.

As it happened, both sides gained a point but one was enough to see Tunnel take over top spot from Mathern on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Geraint Reynolds gathered his eight-goal haul against Caldicot Castle to put pressure on those marksmen above him in the race for this season’s Golden Boot.

There was another 14-goal bonanza in Division Two where Underwood B showed hosts Severn Tunnel no mercy and, in the only other match played, Severn Tunnel B beat Sudbrook CC 4-1.
