REDBROOK Rovers sealed promotion to the North Gloucestershire League Premier Division with a composed and professional 2-0 victory away to Ruardean Hill Rangers Reserves.
With the stakes clear heading into the contest, Rovers made a fast and purposeful start, immediately putting the hosts under pressure. They dominated territory in the early stages, pinning Ruardean Hill back inside their own half and setting the tone for the afternoon.
The breakthrough arrived after just nine minutes when Paul Brooks produced a moment of real quality. Spotting the opportunity from distance, he struck superbly to find the net and settle any early nerves among the travelling side.
To their credit, Ruardean Hill grew into the game as the half progressed and began to enjoy spells of possession. However, they struggled to create anything of note against a well-organised and disciplined Redbrook defence, which limited the hosts to very few clear-cut opportunities.
Rovers went into the interval 1-0 up and still firmly in control, although aware the job was far from complete with plenty of football still to be played.
An open second half followed, with both sides looking to attack in transition. Joe Stephens was introduced at the break to inject fresh energy into the visitors’ forward line, and the game began to stretch as a result.
It was Redbrook who made their moment count. On 68 minutes, Ieuan Frost reacted quickest at the back post, sliding in to turn the ball home and double the advantage, putting Rovers firmly on course to secure all three points.
From there, the visitors showed their experience and game management, keeping their shape and composure to see out the result without alarm.
The final whistle confirmed not just another victory, but promotion, a significant and richly deserved achievement for the club after a consistent and impressive campaign.
The defeat leaves Ruardean Hill Rangers Reserves rooted to the bottom of the table on nine points, although with three games remaining, survival is still mathematically possible for the Forest-based side.
Redbrook could yet cap their season in perfect fashion, with the league title still within reach. They face a final fixture on Saturday, April 3 against Sling knowing victory could be enough to secure top spot.
However, their fate is not entirely in their own hands. Redbrook currently lead the standings on 43 points with a goal difference of +30 and one game remaining, while Staunton & Corse Res sit second on 39 points with three to play and a goal difference of +26.
If Redbrook win their final game, they will move onto 46 points. In that scenario, Staunton & Corse Res would need to win all three of their remaining fixtures to reach 48 points and take the title.
If Staunton & Corse Res win two and draw one, they would finish level on 46 points, meaning goal difference would decide the destination of the title, with just four goals currently separating the sides.
Should Redbrook fail to win, the door would open further for their rivals, with just two victories being enough overturn the deficit.
Goal difference could yet prove decisive, particularly if Staunton & Corse Res draw one of their matches but record convincing wins in the others to swing the margin.
Simply put, if Redbrook beat Sling at the weekend and Staunton & Corse Res lose any of their remaining fixtures, they will be champions.
