RAGLAN Rovers were entertained by a strong Mathern FC team in a friendly match on Sunday.

Rovers have successfully applied to play in a Sunday League as a number of their players are unavailable on Saturdays.

The Mathern side, consisting of players who have played in all three of the club’s teams, was managed by Jeff Whitehouse who had agreed with Rovers’ boss George Morgan, to play three 30-minute periods.

“It meant we could give everyone game time and try different combinations,” Whitehouse said,

“Keiron Gettings and Tom Watson put us ahead and Jack Mayo pulled one back for Rovers with an excellent strike but then a very experienced Mathern took control with goals from Wayne Duffield (three), Kyle Gettings (two), Connor Hayden (two) and Joe Whitehouse on his debut for us,” he added.

A return friendly has been arranged for this Sunday.
