FOREST-BORN footballer Luke Thomas has taken the next step in his career after completing a move to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old winger becomes the club's eighth signing of the summer, with St Mirren also holding the option of extending his stay by a further year.

Thomas, who was born in the Forest of Dean, arrives in Scotland after an impressive spell with Bristol Rovers, where he made 158 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 21 assists.

His career has also included spells with Cheltenham Town, Derby County, Coventry City, Barnsley and Ipswich Town, taking his total number of senior appearances beyond 300.

With international clearance already received, Thomas was immediately available for selection as he begins the latest chapter of his career north of the border.

Speaking after signing, Thomas said he was excited by the opportunity and the ambitions outlined by manager Stephen Robinson.

He said: "I'm really excited for this new opportunity and I can't wait to get going.

"After the first conversation I had with the gaffer, I remember getting off the phone and telling my agent to get it done. He told me how he likes to play and how he sees the game. He's so ambitious and that's what I am in my career."

Thomas added that playing in Scotland was something he had always wanted to experience and said he hoped to seize the chance with both hands.

The former Bristol Rovers winger also revealed he had spoken to Jacob Devaney's father during pre-season training, who praised the club and reinforced his decision to make the move.

Describing his style of play, Thomas said supporters could expect a hard-working winger capable of contributing goals and assists as he looks to make an immediate impact for the Paisley club this season.
