Gwent County League Division Three - Caldicot Castle 2 Rogerstone 1

FOLLOWING a heavy 6-2 defeat in midweek at Race, Caldicot Castle boss Dave Adamson was in no mood to go easy on his players.

“I was very disappointed with that defeat and I let the players know before the game what is expected of them,” Adamson said after the match,

“I was delighted with the response from the players because we played really well.”

Castle went ahead with a goal from new signing Kyle McCabe who had a very impressive debut, according to the manager.

“We missed a hatful of chances and should have been more than a goal up at half time and the second half was similar.

“More chances followed with Joe O’Brien having a goal disallowed and then he had a shot hit a post.

“But we went 2-0 up when Joe Shaw-Jones scored from outside the box and although Rogerstone reduced the deficit with five minutes to go, we survived a nervy last few minutes.

“Credit to the lads, though. They stuck together as a team, did their jobs and were really impressive from start to finish.”

Elsewhere, relegated Fforest were well beaten 4-2 but Sudbrook manager Daryl Cann claimed the winning margin could, and should, have been greater.

“We scored through Steve Wilson, Ritchie Lloyd, Joe Whitehouse and Tom Turner. It could have been double figures but we didn’t finish our chances,” Cann said.

Despite this, Sudbrook went into Tuesday night’s match at home to Ponthir, in second place.
