A MATHERN footballer who has just turned 60 has helped his side stay unbeaten at the top of their league.

Players at Mathern Casuals, a veterans football team playing in the Bristol over-45’s league, had a ceremony for centre half Steve Jennings last Sunday (6th December) to mark the milestone.

“Steve is still a very active player, playing most weeks and helping Mathern to currently sit top of the league and remain unbeaten this season,” says fellow player Steve Taylor.

“He has been playing with us for the last five years or so and he still plays for Sedbury on a Saturday! Strangely enough he didn’t take up football until his thirties and so he puts that down to his longevity.”
