CRICKETER Ben Davies will be representing the county in familiar surroundings this Sunday (7th July).
Ben, from Monmouth, is playing for Gwent Young Cricketers Under-11s against Herefordshire at Monmouth Cricket Club, starting at 1pm.
Ben, a left-arm spinner and solid batsman, is in excellent form after snapping up 5-24 for Gwent against Wiltshire at Corsham.
It was Ben's maiden five-wicket haul and he was awarded a special star for his cap – given to youngsters at under-11 level who take four wickets or more in a match for Gwent.
Monmouth Cricket Club vice-chairman Ian Morgan is also an active member of the Herefordshire Cricket Coaches Association – and is looking forward to Sunday's derby.
"It will be a special occasion for Ben and for Monmouth Cricket Club – we just hope the weather is kind to us," said Ian.
"When Ben steps on to the field, it will be the first time in decades that a Monmouth Cricket Club youngster will have represented Gwent at the Sports Ground."
He added: "We are expecting a large crowd – probably our biggest of the season – and we know that Ben will represent Monmouth with pride and enthusiasm."
Ben, from Wyesham, is also the captain of Monmouth Under-11s, who are fourth in the Premier Division of the Monmouthshire Building Society Youth League.
Ben's dad, Jonathan Davies, is a former first-team wicketkeeper at Monmouth Cricket Club.
