THOUSANDS packed into Hay-on-Wye on Saturday to watch Dutch star Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx – Protime) take the stage four sprint finish in the Loyds Tour of Britain Women.

She went on to make it four sprint wins in five stages in the final day’s 123km race starting and finishing in Leamington Spa on Sunday, where Mauritian race leader Kim Le Court (Team AG Insurance–Soudal) held on to take the green jersey.

Saturday’s 130km stage from Llanidloes saw Belgian youngster Fleur Moors (Lidl Trek), light up the race with an 80km solo breakaway, which won her the combativity award, and which she later dedicated to a young girl called Emily, who is suffering from cancer and who joined her on the podium.

The race visited the Elan Valley, Rhayader and Knighton, with Moors leading the way until she was joined by Team Uno-X’s Alessia Vigilia and Team Picnic PostNL’s Dilyxine Miermont in the breakaway.

Passing through Gladestry and Painscastle enroute to Clyro, the peleton regained contact with 26km to go, but a touch of wheels saw a crash break up the group at the foot of a hill.

Through the rolling Powys hills, overall leader Le Court attacked with Team Movistar rider Liane Lippert and they got away up Clyro Hill.

The pair were then joined by five other riders at the front as they descended into Clyro.

Leader of the Queen of the Mountains Classification, Britain’s Lauren Dickson, crashed for the second time on a corner coming into the village before the race pressed on towards Glasbury on the A438.

Flying over Glasbury Bridge and turning left onto the B4350 for the final 5km, a chase group caught the front runners before reaching Hay and onto the Brecon Road.

A fast, straight sprint to the line then saw Wiebes win the stage, raising three fingers to the sky.
