LOSING their first three wickets for nine runs proved costly for Chepstow 1sts, as they fell to a three-wicket loss at home to Pentrych on Saturday.

The hosts recovered to post 182-9 off 50 overs in the South Wales Premier 2 clash, thanks to 62 from Harry Hughes, 31 from Bruno Chitnis and 25 not out from 10th man Lewys Jones, who shared an unbeaten last-wicket stand of 31 with last man Filip Chitnis (14).

Chepstow's bowlers also had success, but ultimately 68 not out from fifth man Syed Bukhari guided the visitors to 184-7 with nine overs to spare, Raahi Kumar taking four wickets, Jones two and James Hall one.

The 2nds also lost by 10 wickets away to Ponthir 1sts in South East Wales 3 after being limited to 144-9 off 45 overs.

Carwyn James struck 42 and Philip Richardson 33, but the visitors struggled to find the gaps, and three lower order ducks didn't help.

Ponthir then raced to 145 without loss in 29.1 overs, Sam Harrison scoring 63 and skipper George Davies 61.

But Chepstow 3rds won by 98 runs at home to Vale 3rds in SEW 12 after scoring 210-9 off 40 overs, Alun Jones firing 54 in a 101-run opening stand with Luca Goddard (43), backed by Paresh Mhamunkar with 25, Tom Absalom 21 and Ben Tate 24.

Vale were then skittled for 112 in 27.1 overs, Harry Harkins and Max Hunt taking three wickets apiece and Rajendra Chitnis two.

Monday night saw Chepstow travel to Usk for a Macey Cup T20 quarter-final, but the Premier One outfit had too much firepower, dismissing them for 101 in 19.1 overs and then rattling off 102-1 in 12.1 overs.

James Hall made 46 for Chepstow as Ben Jones took three wickets and Tamoor Zafar, Tahmid Ahmed and Ryan Price two apiece before Usk openers Hugo Caldicott with 57 not out and Cameron Hemp 35 eased the hosts to victory.
