MORE than 170 entrants took part in the Cornfield Project's 5K Fun Run at Portskewett on Sunday.
Adults and children enjoyed the event which was staged to raise funds for the project which aims at improving leisure facilities in the village.
One of the organisers, Paul Lovell said they had expected some entries on the day but were surprised by just how many had decided to take part.
"We had 97 entrants on the project website," he said. "But the final figure is almost double that number."
The Fun Run was started by former Wales international footballer Nathan Blake.
"The project is fantastic and I'm pleased to be here," he said as he presented medals to all runners and posed for scores of selfies with the runners.
First over the finishing line was Sudbrook CC winger Richard Lund: "I haven't played since the cup final against Underwood and I thought it would be a good training run ahead of this Friday's Benevolent Cup final," he said.
The run was also used as a training run by the first woman to finish, Swansea University law student Antoinette Dumayne, who lives in Rogiet.
"I prefer cross country running for my club Lliswerry," Antoinette, 21, explained. Second man to finish was Mike Griffiths of Caldicot Running Club with Gavin Ellis third.
