More than 600 rowers took to the River Wye in glorious sunshine as part of the annual Monmouth Regatta last weekend (26th and 27th May).

Hosted by Monmouth Rowing Club, the event was a successful one for Monmouth Comprehensive School (MCS).

20 crews from the school lined up to start, enthusiastically supported by parents, grandparents and siblings.

MCS won 13 events, the most wins ever in a single day of racing.

This brought the school's total wins for the season to 38, breaking last year's total of 33 wins which in itself saw MCS finish in 15th place of all rowing schools across England and Wales.

This ranks Monmouth Comprehensive well up amongst some of the most well-known schools in this very traditional of sports.

This year, Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club celebrates 20 years since its founding in 1992.

With many children starting rowing every year, the future for rowing at the school looks very promising as they work hard to meet the club's maxim of "being the best you can be".

The regatta, which was established in 1929, was sponsored for an eighth year running by Monmouth Building Society.

The club is inclusive of rowers of all ages and currently has close to 100 active members. The club caters for all abilities from elite rowers down to complete beginners, and provides members with an opportunity for both purely social rowing and competitive team rowing. The club is open every day of the week.

Monmouth Rowing Club is affiliated with the Welsh Amateur Rowing Association (WARA) and hosts several annual race events, including the increasingly popular regatta.
